    Turbidity is a measure of the loss of light transmittance through a liquid due to suspended particles. The more particles in the water, the murkier it looks or the higher the turbidity. This is a measure of the quality of the water. It is measured in units called Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU). Turbidity can be caused by run off after a heavy rain as erosion washes soil into a river or lake. It is often increased in the spring and fall when the water temperature at different levels in a lake change causing a turnover of those levels, bringing sediment, plants, and algae to the top.

    AdEdge provides treatment systems for for Uranium removal using AD92 an anion exchange media that is ideal for use in potable water as well as non-potable and environmental remediation applications for removal of naturally occurring uranium. The high efficiency AD92 can selectively remove the negatively charged uranium anion (most often in the form of uranyl carbonate) to below the existing EPA MCL of 30 ug/L. The AdEdge AD92 systems can deliver the needed performance in two ways: (1) via regeneration type systems which use the media to remove the uranium with periodic regeneration using NaCl brine; or (2) as a “throw away” discardable media, which can be discarded when spent. This option maximizes the very high capacity of the AD92. Where on-site regeneration is not available, this disposal option is the preferred option. Disposal options will vary based on federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Cyanide Treatment with Hydrogen Peroxide

    Cyanides are used in a number of chemical synthesis and metallurgical processes (as simple salts or cyanide complexes). As a class, cyanides are highly toxic and must be destroyed or removed from wastewaters prior to discharge. The most common method for treating free or simple cyanide is alkaline chlorination. However, chlorination of cyanide results in highly toxic intermediates (e.g., cyanogen chloride) and, if organic material is present, chlorinated VOC’s. These compounds, together with the residual chlorine, create additional environmental problems. Consequently, there is a growing need for alternative, non-chlorine methods for destroying cyanides. Peroxygen compounds such as hydrogen peroxide, peroxymonosulfuric acid (1), and persulfates (1) are effective alternatives to alkaline chlorination for destroying free and complexed cyanides. The choice of peroxygen system depends on the reaction time available, the desired products (cyanate, or CO2 and NH3), the types of cyanides being treated (free, weak acid dissociable, or inert), and the system economics. Treatment with Hydrogen Peroxide While hydrogen peroxide will oxidize free cyanide, it is common to catalyze the reaction with a transition metal such as soluble copper, vanadium, tungsten or silver in concentrations of 5 to 50 mg/L (2).
