Freeze Drying

by Hiden Analytical     based in Warrington, UNITED KINGDOM

Lyophilization, commonly referred to as freeze drying, is the process of removing water from a product by sublimation and desorption. The freeze drying process is optimised by the introduction of solvents and gas species to improve product quality and to enhance the drying process. Hiden's gas analysers provide detailed information about the gas/vapour composition during both the primary and secondary drying phases. Detection of the on-set of the secondary drying phase is readily detected. Analysis during the secondary drying phase enables a reduction in process cycle time and provides end point detection. Accurate determination of a user defined process 'end point' enables high consistency in product yield from batch to batch.

Pure drinking water solutions for high-security facilities

by Pure & Secure, LLC.     based in Lincoln, NEBRASKA (USA)

In June 2002 an Al-Qaeda cell was captured in Rome just before they poisoned the water supply of the US Embassy. This event demonstrates the added risk that government buildings, military contractors, royal palaces and other high-security facilities can encounter. These facilities should not trust an outside company to deliver bottled water, but instead must stay in full control of their own water supply at all times. Our secure drinking water systems are in over 100 US Embassies around the world because they provide a consistent supply of fresh, distilled water, which is the highest level of protection against the full range of possible contaminants. We provide premium water distillers for these high-security facilities as well as small systems to protect the staff at home. We also provide risk assessment and water education services.

Water quality monitoring for semiconductor industry

by Real Tech Inc.     based in Whitby, ONTARIO (CANADA)

Water is fundamental to the manufacturing process in a semiconductor facility. Electronic components are rinsed or washed several times during the producing process with ultrapure water (UPW) to remove residue. Continuous monitoring of organic constituents (TOC) on the influent city water assist with UPW production. Good quality waste streams for the manufacturing process can also be monitored for reuse potential.

Water quality monitoring for environmental industry

by Real Tech Inc.     based in Whitby, ONTARIO (CANADA)

Maintaining the quality of natural waters provides numerous economic benefits by preventing severe deterioration of water resources that would require expensive treatment operations to protect public health and the environment. For instance, monitoring nitrates in surface waters can possibly prevent algal blooms from happening by facilitating the necessary steps to stop pollution sources from discharging nitrogen nutrients into the water system.

Water quality monitoring for pulp & paper industry

by Real Tech Inc.     based in Whitby, ONTARIO (CANADA)

Pulp and paper waste streams are exceptionally well suited for spectral analysis due to the high concentration of UV/Vis light absorbing organics in their process water and waste streams. Continuous monitoring of the organic load by means of COD/BOD correlations will help ensure the treatment process is carried out in the most efficient way possible by optimizing aeration rates and nutrient dosing while also making sure that all the regulatory goals are met.

Water quality monitoring for municipal drinking water industry

by Real Tech Inc.     based in Whitby, ONTARIO (CANADA)

Real Tech offers solutions that can provide substantial benefits to drinking water treatment plants. Continuous online monitoring can ensure water quality standards are met without the need for chemical overdosing while maintaining high confidence in the safety of the treated water. Significant cost savings can be achieved by optimizing coagulant dosage, reduced sludge production and reduced energy requirements.

FEDI - Electrodeionization

by QUA Group LLC     based in Canonsburg, PENNSYLVANIA (USA)

The Fractional Electrodeionization (FEDI) process is an advancement of conventional EDI. The patented dual voltage process allows for a higher flexibility and tolerance to inlet water conditions, thus lowering the risk of scaling, and improving the plant’s design economics and reliability. By incorporating a two-stage separation process with different voltages the FEDI® process is able to: Achieve a higher hardness tolerance by having distinctly different concentrate chambers with separate reject streams and thus reducing the potential of hardness scaling. Optimize power consumption by using higher electrical current only where required. Ensure the best water quality, continuously & consistently by removing a major part of the deionization load in the ‘hardness removal zone’, while residual ionic impurities are effectively removed in the ‘silica removal zone’, which stays in a polishing mode.

Water measurement systems & sensors for water quality monitoring

by Isodaq Technology - Hydro-Logic Group     based in Bromyard, UNITED KINGDOM

Effective water quality monitoring is the key to environmental protection of watercourses and for reliable process control and wastewater treatment.  Discharge consents under EPR regulations dictate that water quality monitoring is undertaken to ensure that consented parameters are below the consented concentrations.  Traditionally this has been done using water quality sampling methods but increasingly automatic water quality measurement sensors linked to real-time telemetry is seen as the most reliable and timely means of ensuring that treatment processes are operating efficiently and that EPR compliance is maintained.

Waste water treatment plants Air quality control by TRS MEDOR

by Chromatotec Group     based in Val de Virvée, FRANCE

Context & Challenges Globally, the wastewater treatment is the first public health issue. Urban development leads to urbanization near waste water treatment plant and extension of sewerage network. These aspects induce to an augmentation of sulfur compounds (H2S, mercaptans and sulfides) which are very corrosive, odorant and toxic. To monitor this compounds online CHROMATOTEC® offers high meteorological solutions. At the entrance of the waste water plants, where the waste water arrives, strongly smelling and polluted air is captured and neutralised by a chemical cleaning process called ‘’Stripping’’. The correct amount of chemical products needed to neutralise the polluted air has to be calculated.

Water reuse for the food industry

by Colsen International b.v.     based in HULST, NETHERLANDS

Especially in the food industry large volumes of water are consumed. This process water is often discharged directly or discharged after passing a wastewater treatment station. Due to the increasing costs of (process)water companies try to reduce the water consumption mainly through reuse. An important aspect of this development is to comply with the high water quality standards.
