The SORB 33® arsenic removal system employs a simple process that flows pressurized water through a fixed bed pressure vessel containing the ferric oxide (Bayoxide® E33 granular or Bayoxide® E33P pelletized) media. As the contaminated water passes through the media, arsenic is adsorbed and removed to a level below 10mg/L. Since the Bayoxide media was developed to have a high capacity for arsenic, it achieves long run times before the media becomes exhausted. Exhausted media can be removed and sent to a non-hazardous landfill for disposal, meeting U.S. TCLP test.

There is immediate need for suitable treatment technologies for perchlorate-contaminated soils, groundwater and surface water at a number of Superfund and RCRA sites in the United States. Ongoing cleanup efforts are focused on contaminated groundwater. In California, Nevada and Texas, fluidized bed reactors are currently used to pump-and-treat perchlorate-contaminated groundwater. Phytoremediation and in-situ bioremediation of groundwater are undergoing field-testing at other sites. While this approach may be appropriate for sites where only groundwater is contaminated with perchlorate, such efforts may be costly, if the contaminated soils are not treated as well. Treating perchlorate plumes in groundwater and surface water without addressing the source areas (soils) cannot and should not be considered as a cost-effective permanent remedy.

Asia 2008 - Asia is leading the world in terms of hydropower and water resources development, with major programmes under way in more than 20 countries and plans for new hydro capacity in more than 30 countries. Vietnam has been described as the ‘New Tiger of Asia’. The Government aims to extend electrification to all urban areas, and to 90% of the rural areas by 2010, and attain 100% electrification by 2020. Electricity demand is forecast to increase by 15-16% by that time, with investments in the country’s power industry expected to reach US$ 20 billion. Hydropower plays a major role in current development activities, with numerous projects under way throughout the country and nearly 5000 MW of new capacity planned. Potential for small hydro in Vietnam is estimated at around 1000 MW, and this will play a major role in rural electrification. Many multipurpose schemes will provide water supply, irrigation and recreational benefits for the population.
