Facing challenges in the mining industry

Within the mining industry, there are many challenges. One of them is the treatment and discharge of brines and wastewater. This wastewater is generated during the mining of ores and minerals. The mining process in fact uses a lot of fresh water, which becomes highly contaminated with minerals, salts and other pollutants during the process. This wastewater cannot be discharged directly to the surface because of the major impact it will have on the environment.

An example is the mining of lithium. Lithium plays a crucial role in the transition to the fossil-free and carbon-neutral global economy targeted for 2050. The use of electric batteries requires lithium. The lithium is extracted in areas where water is currently scarce. This makes it extremely important to recover the used  water, and to recover the expensive lithium.

Resources
  • Highly contaminated wastewater
  • No discharge possible to surface water
  • Fresh water scarcity
  • Recovery of important resources like lithium
The Dyvar® technology

A robust, reliable treatment system producing freshwater from mining industry brines and recover valuable minerals.

Our Dyvar® technology is a robust, reliable concentration and crystallization technology that concentrated brines and waste waters into fresh water and over saturated brines and crystalized salts. By applying our Dyvar® Technology we will help the industry to meet the sustainability targets. The fresh water can be reused in the mining process of raw materials such as lithium.

Together with our South African business partner Tecroveer, we performed a successful application at the wastewater treatment plant of a South African mining customer. By applying our Dyvar® technology, the RO reject can be further concentrated and crystallized into solids and a clean condensate stream that can serve as a reliable source for drinking water production or can be discharged to surface water.

Why you should choose Dyvar®:
  • Tailor made Dyvar® unit sizing application possible
  • Fully automated, use of operation, 24/7, little operator attendance
  • Capability of treating a wide range of brines with fluctuating TDS
  • Capability of knocking out primary salts and keep secondairy (f.e.lithium) in solution.
  • Adjustable brine out concentration possible (oversaturated brine or salt crystals)
