CASE STUDY 19. Filtration for Alcan (France) swarf recovery at an aluminium billet plant
In 1998 this Glosfume ceramic filter system was originally installed at British Aluminium plant in the UK to filter oily fumes from an induction furnace smelting oily swarf recovered from billet sawing.
The filter is injected with 2C talc before being recycled back to the inlet ducting. At a pre-set time, the talc is discharged to a collection drum and the cycle is repeated.
During 2006 British Aluminium at Workington closed down and sold out to Alcan with most of the plant transferred to France. This included the ceramic filter which was refurbished by our French agent.
- Original installation date: 1998 (UK)
- Re located: 2007 (France)
- Filter unit: HTMC256 (256)
- Filtration area: 48 m2
- Operating temperature: 120°C
- Absorbent: 2C talc
- Gas flow: Up to 5,000 Am3/hr
