Alberta Environment is becoming a policy driven and outcomes focused ministry. A key factor in the success of this strategic shift is being able to effectively monitor and report on the state of the environment. The objective was to demonstrate that the department is achieving its desired environmental outcomes using a systems management approach.

Alberta Benefits from Emissions Data Warehouse
- One-stop shopping for air quality data. Both ambient air quality data and air emissions data will be available at the same web accessible data warehouse.
- Emissions from reporting industrial point sources could be compared to all (comprehensive) emissions. While industrial sources are fairly well identified and available in inventories such as the NPRI, the comprehensive emissions are not.
- Collection of source/emission data that can improve air quality modeling. For example stack parameters process specific emission information and other data that is not available in the NPRI and elsewhere.
- Emissions data can be updated and quality controlled through data providers and users group.
