Churches and other culture buildings - Case Study
Uppåkra has taken a holistic approach to the climate
Uppåkra church in Lund`s pin is today in excellent condition, but as in so many other churches, the indoor climate has previously posed problems with both mold and high heating costs. - We have spent up to 30 million on renovations in recent years, partly because of problems with the moisture, says Lars Törnqvist, property manager in Uppåkra parish. In the summers, it has also been forced to heat the church up to nearly 30 degrees to bring down the moisture content, at the expense of both economy and comfort.

Solution: The church has for some years been back on a climate control system installed, which has a function that warms the church to lower the humidity. In late summer, when the air outdoors is both warm and humid, the church has therefore been warmed long over comfort heat - only to "bowl" with the water in the air.
We have been allowed to shut down the heat before worship in order for the visitors not to turn in the door, the church`s caretaker Ola Bengtsson says.
Solution: During the summer of 2016, two dehumidifiers, FLEX Integrate from Airwatergreen, were installed. Since then, the climate has improved significantly, while saving money due to reduced heating needs. The dehumidifiers also communicate with the control system, so that one can keep a lower temperature partly when the church should be warm, but also when there is no activity.
" Heat is for comfort, Between the ordinances, both the church and the wallet are better off with smart dehumidification, ”says Jonny Bjurman, researcher in the field at Gothenburg University.
