Valeo Kapec (Valeo) is a South Korean automotive parts manufacturer, which supplies ten million torque converters for automatic transmissions globally every year. Due to a joint venture the company had a heterogenous structure, which made it difficult for Valeo to gain an overview of total development and manufacturing costs. In order to standardize and therefore better monitor cost estimates in future, the company is implementing solutions from Siemens Digital Industries Software. Valeo has been able to reduce calculation time, while also establishing a company-wide process for product costs and a uniform calculation standard.
In the automotive industry, suppliers face huge challenges in terms of enormous competitive pressure, tight delivery times and strict quality requirements. In order to remain competitive, costs must be monitored at all times so that action can be taken quickly when required. In the past, Valeo Kapec found this difficult to achieve. The company previously traded as Korea Powertrain and in 2017 entered into a joint venture with Valeo (which was already in a joint venture with Siemens as Valeo Siemens eAutomotive). This joint venture resulted in a heterogenous company structure, in which almost every department operated its own cost management system. For a seamless solution that offers a company-wide system to improve efficiency and provide an overview of costs, Valeo now relies on Teamcenter from Siemens.

In order to standardize cost management, Valeo relies on Teamcenter from Siemens Digital Industries Software.

Clear overview of costs and potential savings
The product calculation provided in Teamcenter is a software-based cost management system, which helps producing companies to make cost-effective decisions. The solution also highlights potential for cost savings in the process – for example in material purchasing, design optimization or production relocation.
More competitive thanks to seamless standard
With the introduction of Teamcenter, Valeo has brought in a company-wide product cost standard. The company now operates much more efficiently and has been able to reduce the number of loops that are required for checking the product calculation from seven to five. “By using Teamcenter from Siemens for our product calculation, we now have a standardized cost management system. This has made us more competitive in terms of costs and has improved our efficiency,” explains Hyeong-don Jeong, General Director of Financial Planning at Valeo. “We are laying a solid foundation that enables us to respond to questions and requests from our customers.”
