Combating Listeria and Pseudomonas: The Biofilm Challenge

Listeria and Pseudomonas represent two of the most significant microbial threats to food safety and process integrity. Listeria is notoriously resilient, surviving in cold, moist environments and hiding within industrial machinery, while Pseudomonas is a master of biofilm formation, creating protective layers in piping systems that resist standard cleaning. When these bacteria establish themselves, they form a persistent matrix that acts as a continuous source of recontamination. This not only compromises the shelf life and quality of the end product but also poses severe risks for product recalls and non-compliance during HACCP or BRC audits.

To effectively eliminate these risks, a shift from reactive cleaning to continuous, structural disinfection is essential. The Watter system addresses this by generating a potent disinfectant in-situ, which is proven by EN 1276 standards to be highly effective against both Listeria and Pseudomonas. By maintaining a constant, controlled dosage, the system actively inhibits microbial growth and breaks down existing biofilms without the need for hazardous chemical storage. This proactive approach ensures that water and process installations remain microbiologically secure, protecting both the consumer and the manufacturer's bottom line.
