CSO Control Facility, City of Hackensack, NJ

Hackensack is the seat of Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey, occupying 4.6 squaremiles. The population of Hackensack is approximately 43,000. Elevation is from three feet to 120 feet above sea level and from a number of locations one can see the New York City skyline, seven miles to the east.

During wet weather conditions the sewer system diverted large volumes of untreated waste water to the Hackensack River. The city was required to provide screened bypass flow to the receiving body to conform to current state regulations.
