The April 2015 Nepal earthquake was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake.
Hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless with entire villages flattened, across many districts of the country. Meelan Gurung, Group Managing Director of the Singaporese based company Acuatico Pte Ltd, wanted to do something about this situation and decided to donate several Villagepumps 500 for the city of Kathmandu. These Villagepumps are plug-and-play and can be put into operation on a short term. Within a few hours clean drinking water was available for the affected population and soon the Villagepumps were used on a daily basis, highly appreciated by the locals.
