Evaluating DNAPL Recovery System Performance GeoTrax Survey - Case Study

Aestus performed our GeoTrax Surveys to asses the performance of a DNAPL recovery system installed within a waste pit at a hazardous waste landfill. The two remediation wells along our survey transect had been “clean” for two years prior to our confirmation survey work. The GeoTrax Survey results indicated that recovery wells have achieved significant reduction of DNAPLs near the source areas and within the wells’ actual zone of influence which was significantly smaller than the design zone of influence which was one-half of the well spacing.

However, Aestus also demonstrated that large sources of DNAPLs are still present, and a potential vertical DNAPL excursion was noted at the east side of the waste pit. In addition, the excavation limits of the eastern edge of the waste pit are clearly visible. This information will be useful in allowing our client to focus supplemental remediation efforts.
