Helping Yanfeng Automotive Interiors Increase Efficiency, Supplier Cost Recovery, and Improve Customer Quality - Case Study

Yanfeng Automotive Interiors (YFAI) is the global leader in automotive interiors in design, development, and manufacturing of automotive interior components, such as door panels, instrument panels/cockpits, consoles, decorative trim, and lighting. YFAI solutions widely cover global automakers at all ranges, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Ford, and Toyota, among others. Headquartered in Shanghai, the company has approximately 110 manufacturing plants and technical centers in 20 countries and more than 33,000 employees globally.

The Challenge
Managing supplier quality was a cumbersome and limited process with YFAI’s previous system. YFAI’s biggest pain point was around the Supplier Chargeback process, which took an average of 6 weeks to complete, from the submission of the defective part and or services to the supplier to recouping the cost in their ERP system. This was a manual process that involved many people and was highly ineffective when it came to recouping costs. Because of the limitations of the existing quality management system (QMS), YFAI was unable to resolve the inefficiencies.

Significant losses were being incurred due to defective parts and the management process was a headache. YFAI needed an efficient QMS that would help them effectively recoup costs, improve the process of working with suppliers, and unify quality data that was disparately managed by individual plants.
