How do you clean a stormwater management pond (SMWP) without draining the pond first?
A clean-out of the SWMP is required once every 5-15 years to remove accumulated sediments to ensure the pond continues to function as intended. Drainage of the SWMP is not always required to facilitate the clean-out.
By combining the pumping and excavation into one process! New pumping technology - Dragflow Pumps - specifically designed to pick up solids from stationary, mixing them into a high density slurry and pumping them all in one operation - able to pump as much as 70% solids by weight (up to 5 inch diameter solids)! This new pumping technology can be applied to tailing ponds.
New Sediment Removing Method:
- Mount Dragflow Pump with agitator and cutters directly to the excavator barge system and start pumping (agitators and cutters allow large quantities of solids to be pumped even in the presence of very heavy sediment laden slurries)
- Pump directly to holding/drain-off tank or Geo-tube for drying.
- Removal of tank or Geo-tube to discard and replace with another if necessary material is less in volume and lighter due to draining/drying, therefor, much less trucking cost)
Traditional Sediment Removing Method:
- Set-up a pumping system to pump/drain the SWMP and filter before releasing to outlet storm pipe
- Excavate sediment and load into trucks 'wet'
- If storm even re-fills pond, drain SWMP again using filters to protect storm outlet and creeks
- Continue to excavate and remove all sediment via trucks
- Continue cycle of pump-off, filter, excavate and truck until pond sediment is removed.
