The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly known as California’s Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”), protects the State from chemical contaminants known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Under an update to Article 6 of Prop 65 (i.e., “Clear and Reasonable Warnings”), manufacturers of any product and/or products with packaging potentially resulting in consumer, environmental, or occupational exposure (as defined in the regulation) to such chemical contaminants are required to include: 1) a pictogram, 2) a warning statement including any product chemical(s) listed under Prop 65, and 3) a link to the Prop 65 website (www.P65Warnings.ca.gov) on the product label.
Effective August 30, 2018, these updated requirement details will become mandatory.
