The Trouble with Bubbles
Bubbles cause problems. Liqui-Cel can help.
Bubble formation arises from pressure and temperature fluctuations, pump cavitation, or system leaks, and dissolved gases coming out of solution. In closed systems such as piping or tubing, entrained bubbles disrupt fluid processes and instrumentation, they cause inconsistent results. Bubbles interfere with optical counters and lead to inaccurate reagent volume and flow measurements.

While simple separators and ultrasonication devices remove or coalesce some entrained bubbles, their benefits are often limited. The system may require batch operation or may need a Bubble Trap to remove bubbles from the fluid path. Even after all bubbles are removed changes in temperature or pressure can generate new bubbles from dissolved gases.
Minimizing dissolved gas in the fluid not only eliminates entrained gas bubbles but also reduces the likelihood of downstream bubble formation.
3M/Solventum Liqui-Cel™ degassing contactors offer a highly-efficient, compact, and continuous in-line solution to significantly reduce gases in fluid streams. Their unique microporous polypropylene membranes effectively manage gases in pure water and most aqueous solutions. For solutions containing surfactants or organic solvents, the Liqui-Cel™ SP-series (SuperPhobic) contactors, featuring non-porous gas-permeable membranes, are available to meet these specific challenges.
Originally developed by Membrana, Liqui-Cel™ contactors are now manufactured by Solventum following the company’s spin-off from 3M. With decades of expertise in mitigating bubbles in ultra-clean water systems, analytical instruments, ink dispensing, beverage systems, and industrial processes, the Liqui-Cel™ contactor family is supported by unparalleled technical and sales assistance from SnowPure and our team.
SnowPure carries inventory of numerous Liqui-Cel modules.
