What Are the Properties of Stainless Steel Clad Plate?
Stainless steel clad plates offer a combination of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for various industrial applications. Here are some key properties of stainless steel clad plates:
1. Mechanical Properties
Stainless steel clad plates allow for the combination of the mechanical properties of carbon steel with the excellent corrosion resistance of stainless steel.
The microstructure and mechanical properties of stainless steel clad plates have been researched, revealing the formation of a 20 m thick diffusion layer between stainless steel and carbon steel, which exhibits stable mechanical performance.
2. Corrosion Resistance
Clad plates, also known as bonded plates, are known for their superior strength and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for use in heavy industry.
3. Cladding Process Standards
The cladding process for stainless steel plates should meet specific design and material standards, especially for critical applications like pressure vessels or pipelines. Relevant standards include ASTM A263, ASME SA-263, ASTM A264, and ASME SA-264.
Additional design considerations include the thickness of the clad layer, which should be at least half the thickness of the base metal, and the cladding thickness, which should ideally be between 1.5 to 5mm, although above 5 mm is also possible.
4. Interface Properties
The stretch and interface properties of multilayer clad plates have been measured, with the result showing that a 20 layer clad plate is better than others, indicating well-bonded clad plates.
