Military teams and First responders rarely get the chance to choose where their services will be needed. Many times deployment comes with uncertainty about unknown communications infrastructure. Traditional cellular and satellite signals are frequently relied upon for backhaul access to the Internet, and agency VPN connections. Cellular access requires regionally operational towers. Satellite access requires line of sight view to the satellite orbiting over the earths equator. However, what happens when cellular towers are down, and/or satellite signal is blocked by terrain or buildings?

Seamless transition between Convoy and Basecamp WiFi Internet Access. With the SAT-ON-THE-MOVE, your communication reliability is no longer tied to your vehicle reliability. First Responder and Military field deployments present multiple communication challenges prior to arriving at the operational location. Past deployment concepts required multiple communication blackout periods during team transit. By deploying the SAT-ON-THE-MOVE, you gain freedom to initiate command and control voice and data communications for up to 25 Team members immediately upon leaving your base location, with no need to wait until final destination arrival to coordinate team actions and operational plans. The SAT-ON-THE-MOVE provides a WiFi Internet bubble within the moving deployment vehicle, and also Internet connections to all other Team vehicles travelling within the 600ft WiFi Internet bubble – all while travelling at speed down the highway or over unimproved roads.

The Globalstar and Iridium handheld satellite phones enable primarily voice conversations. Globalstar has a North American footprint, while Iridium works anywhere in the world. Both are larger than a typical mobile phone, but still small enough to carry in a backpack, and very simple to use. Water, shock & dust resistant for rugged environments. Data Capable at 4.8kbps. VSAT satellite systems offer the highest bandwidth data connections ranging from 128Kbps to 6Mbps. The 308 SYSTEMS VSAT hardware utilizes smaller traditional dish equipment to provide transmit/receive Internet connections through geostationary satellites in the Ku and Ka bands. The user equipment is typically multiple small packages containing a deployable antenna system(.75m to 1.2m), antenna controller, modem/router, and 3w, 4w or 6w Block Up Converter(BUC). For data access, the VSAT system is connected to the TAC-PAK laptop via an Ethernet cable. More difficult to use, the VSAT system is the most technically complex of the TAC-PAK satphone options.

The TAC•PAK is a multi-user `Briefcase Command Center`. The lightweight, battery powered, man portable communication platform with full wireless communications functionality is integrated into a small suitcase. For example, floating in a rowboat on a lake, multiple TAC•PAK users could connect to the Internet at the same time they are receiving a fax while simultaneously connected to the EOC Dispatch LAN.
