Lead-Based Paint And Industrial Lead Consulting & Contracting Services

Lead poisoning continues to be one of the leading causes of adverse health effects to small children.   As a result, HUD Guidelines for the Evaluation and Control of Lead-Based Paint Hazards in Housing were promulgated.  These guidelines established protocol for testing of painted substrates for lead, performance of lead risk assessments and required the abatement of lead-based paint equal to or greater than 1.0 mg/cm² and/or 0.5% of lead by weight.  The City of Philadelphia Department of Health Standard for lead-based paint is an XRF measurement of 0.7 mg/cm2.

Indoor Air Quality - Odor Assessments Services

AET conducts indoor air quality assessments to address occupant concerns and/or reported physiological symptoms which may be attributed to indoor air quality conditions.  This assessment includes a review of key components of the building`s HVAC system and operational parameters with respect to maintenance and control of pollutant sources.

Mold & Water Damage Assessment - Remediation - Contracting Services

Molds are found almost everywhere, they can grow on virtually any organic substances, as long as moisture is present.  To control mold growth in buildings you must control excess moisture.  Response to a water impact episode is the key to controlling mold growth. Response should be initiated within 24-48 hours.  Water impacted porous building materials must be either dried or discarded.  Under a single contract, AET routinely  responds to water infiltration episodes and implements proven decision-making protocols which have resulted in significant savings to our clients and continuation of business operations during required remediation activities.

Industrial Hygiene - OSHA Compliance Monitoring Services

AET`s Industrial Hygienists will assist your staff to develop a comprehensive monitoring program tailored to fit your needs.  If worker exposure is an issue, AET will provide your staff with personal monitors to determine the level of exposure in the work place.  AET can also provide electronic direct reading instrumentation to determine the level of exposure to a given chemical or to monitor an area for off-gases or contaminant leakage.  Sampling is performed in accordance with NIOSH/OSHA protocols for direct comparison with OSHA or ACGIH standards.

Flat Roof Surveysc Services

In AET`s experience, water infiltration into and through a roofing system is the leading cause of water damage and resulting mold growth in residential and commercial buildings. Entrapped moisture causes the roof membrane and insulation to rot and can lead to structural deterioration and safety concerns. In the interim, moisture intrusion will decrease the thermal efficiency of the roof insulation and increase the heating and cooling costs of the building. Further, stagnant moisture leads to bacterial growth and odors.

PCB Management - Disposal Services

PCBs were used in the manufacture of light fixture ballasts.  Typically, light ballasts contain 1-3 fluid ounces of PCB liquid which is sealed within the capacitor. Handling of non-damaged (i.e. sealed) ballasts should not pose a hazard. However, damage is not always readily evident.  Where renovations involve removal of fluorescent light fixtures, a management plan should be formulated to protect workers and the environment, and ensure proper disposal of these items.  Note: After 1978 all manufacturers of ballasts were required to identify PCB content (i.e. labeled `contains no PCB`s`). Should this marking not be found, the assumption should be made that a ballast does contain PCB`s.
