1:36 NEZZY Tank Test Services

System validation for hydrodynamics and global platform motions is carried out at University of Cork, Ireland in a wave basin. 15 days of different tests cover all necessary tests for the hydrodynamic validation. Decay tests showed the eigenperiods of the system, whereas regular wave tests and irregular wave tests are used to derive Response Amplitude Operators (RAO). Survival environment is tested for 50 year conditions where the mooring system and nezzy showed an outstanding stability performance at low mooring loads. As usable for different sea areas, sea-states in JONSWAP, Pierson-Moskowitz and Bretschneider are tested. The results are used to optimize nezzy for a worldwide operation at a low LCoE. Wind and wave misalignment tests validated the key feature of nezzy as passive wind alignment. nezzy behaves better than expected and the waves have just a minor influence on the platform orientation.

1:15 Scaled Model Nezzy Tank Test Services

Extending the gathered experience a 1:15 scaled elastic model is fabricated to investigate in material use, installation process and seakeeping behavior. In this model, all materials for the foundation are used similar to the full scale design to gather manufacturing and assembly experience. Especially the concrete legs are designed to meet exactly the Froude scale design requirements and the guy wires are made of carbon fiber similar to the full scale design. Elastic load tests are performed in a dry condition to show the elastic behavior of the model. The results are compared with finite element method results to show the validity. Especially the tower and guy wire load distribution was investigated in detail to validate numerical results. An analysis shows that tower top loading is transferred via the guy wires into the foundation and the tower itself is loaded by gravity loading.

1:36 Scaled Model Nezzy2 Tank Test Services

As proven system validation approach a tank test for a 1:36 Froude scaled model was carried out to investigate on the sea-keeping behavior and to perform an advanced economical feasibility. Based on the great validation results of the nezzy project the twin-rotor configuration is a valid extension of the nezzy capabilities. In November 2017 a 10 days measurement campaign was carried out at the LiR NOTF Deep Ocean Basin of the University College Cork, Ireland. Starting with unmoored and moored decay tests the hydrostatic characteristic and eigenperiods are investigated. Followed by regular wave tests with and without turbine operation response characteristics are measured to compare the results from irregular wave dynamic testing.RAOs (Response Amplitude Operators) are extracted from irregular wave testing receiving a greater statistical basis. All eigenperiods are outside of usual wave excitation areas allowing nezzy² to show its outstanding performance in word wide operation areas.
