Women in Aerosols
Aerosol Devices Inc. was founded in 2014 in Fort Collins, Colorado by two professional women in aerosols. Our primary goal is to bring to market advanced aerosol collector technology developed by Dr. Susanne Hering and her creative team of scientists at Aerosol Dynamics Inc. (Berkeley, CA). Over the past five years, research prototypes were developed to collect uninterrupted, time-resolved, concentrated samples of ambient aerosol particles in the field for chemical analysis in the lab. Recently a collection module has been developed to efficiently deposit particles into liquid forming concentrated particle suspensions. Variations of the collector prototypes are used in creating colloidal particle concentration standards, studying combustion soot particles, purifying protein samples, and much more.
A grant from the National Institutes of Health (1 RC3 ES019081-01) funded the collector development. Please check out the Reference section to read more about the early development, performance, and field sampling results.
Both of the company’s founders, Ms. Pat Keady and Dr. Susanne Hering, are past Presidents of the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) and leaders in the field with numerous aerosol measurement patents and publications. With a strong business and engineering background, Ms. Keady serves as the company CEO/President. Dr. Hering contributes as a technical adviser to the company while continuing her role as President of Aerosol Dynamics Inc., a very successful and well-respected R&D firm.
Aerosol particle collector technology is licensed from Aerosol Dynamics Inc. with U.S. Patents #6712881, #7736421, #8801838, German Patent #10392241, and Japanese Patent #5908475. Other patents pending.
Our Founders
Pat has extensive business experience in the aerosol instrumentation industry within division and corporate-level management of engineering, sales and marketing, quality, human resources, and manufacturing. She is a past President of the American Association for Aerosol Research. Pat received her MS Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and MBA course-work from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN. She holds two patents for aerosol instrumentation.
Susanne is Founder and President of an R&D company, Aerosol Dynamics Inc. (Berkeley, CA), that develops innovative aerosol measurement instrumentation and runs field testing campaigns supported primarily through Federal Government SBIR grants.
She has served as a President of the American Association for Aerosol Research, and in 2007 was honored as the recipient of the BYH Liu Award, presented by the Association in recognition of contributions to aerosol instrumentation. Currently she is an Editor for Aerosol Science & Technology. Susanne received her PhD in Physics from the University of Washington, with postdoctoral work in Environmental Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. Susanne has over 100 technical publications and holds 18 patents (issued and pending) related to aerosol measurement technologies.
Mission and Priorities
Mission
Our mission is to offer superior aerosol measurement capabilities that advance scientific knowledge, which can lead to improving the environment, health, safety, and quality of life.
Priorities
Customers
Customers are our number one priority. Happy customers become return customers, give referrals to their friends, pay our bills, and allow us to keep going.
Quality
We will make decisions every day to ensure that we meet or exceed our customer’s high expectations. When we fall short, we will respond immediately to make it right.
Employees
Employees create quality, which generates customers. By offering a safe and productive work environment, tools to do a quality job, interesting products and career development opportunities, we will be an employer of choice and able to attract the best talent.
Community
We serve the global aerosol research community and the neighborhoods where we work, live, and play by being good stewards of the environment, volunteering for causes we believe in, and providing new employment opportunities. Healthy communities attract the finest people, some of whom will become customers, collaborators, employees, suppliers, mentors, and friends.
Shareholders
As long as we focus on our top four priorities, our shareholders will be fine.
