The American Hydro Dam Division has set a new standard for the capabilities of concrete hydrodemolition. Due to drastic thermal variation seen by the surface of many dams, the exterior face of the dam requires maintenance in the form of patchwork or complete removal. These areas of repair can cover hundreds of thousands of square feet with varying cut depths. Although concrete protective coatings are designed to preserve the structures surface, eventually the coating itself will deteriorate. In this case, American Hydro is prepared to remove the delaminated material. With specially designed membrane nozzles providing the precise pressure and water flow rate, virtually any concrete protective coating can be removed with no damage to existing concrete. When attached to the American Hydro flat robot, membrane removal becomes fast and easy with removal rates achieving 800 sq ft/ hr.

Vertical concrete removal is a difficult and time consuming task using conventional methods. American Hydro has developed an extremely easy, efficient and safe method in order to remove concrete at ceiling heights of up to 15’. In addition to this, American Hydro has the ability to design and build robots for overhead concrete removal from virtually any ceiling height. American Hydro has performed concrete removal on a variety of vertical surfaces. Vertical applications include parking structure walls, water treatment shafts, and nuclear containment facilities. We have designed and built robots tailored to specific structures and have removed concrete from surfaces reaching 200’ above ground level.
