In the early 1970s , the environmental laboratory ABC Laboratories, Columbia Missouri, under the direction of Dr. David L. Stalling, began to make the GPC system, originally developed for its own use, available to other users.

The State Chemical Investigation Office in Münster and the Bavarian Main Research Station for Agriculture in Freising-Weihenstephan were the first users of the system, then called GPC-Autoprep, in Germany.

GPC quickly became a standard used in many laboratories for sample preparation in residue analysis.

In 1988, GPC was expanded with the AutoVap, an automatic concentration device, further simplifying sample preparation.

In 1991, ANTEC GmbH took over the sample preparation business from Foss Electric, which had previously managed the devices manufactured by ABC in Germany.

The further development and production of the systems was outsourced from ABC Laboratories to a specialty company and taken over by J2 Scientific LLC, also in Columbia, Missouri.

In 2001 , the GPC-MPS system gained new possibilities for individual application, made possible by the use of modern, computer-controlled programs in conjunction with high-precision syringe modules.

In 2006 , the AccuVap was redeveloped in conjunction with the MPS system.

In 2010, the PrepLinc system was introduced, which, in addition to GPC and automatic sample concentration, was now also able to automate complex SPE purifications.

With 2D-GPC, developed from 2013 onwards , it became possible to process large amounts of matrix in one purification and thus further increase the efficiency of the entire GPC system.

In 2020, we introduced the further development of the sample preparation platform, the miniaturized PrepLinc². This includes modules for gel permeation chromatography (GPC), solid phase extraction (SPE), an inline evaporation system and a high-precision autosampler.
