Applied Separations - Multi-Vessel Simultaneous Oven-based Extraction Systems
The Spe-ed™ SFE-2 and Spe-ed SFE-4 are the original SFEs in our series of instruments for supercritical fluid extraction. Built in conjunction with the USDA¹, these systems were designed to meet the rigorous needs of day-to-day use in the research lab. They are simple to operate, fast and affordable, with unique features not found in other SCF systems. The Spe-ed SFE-2 oven has the capacity for up to two vessels and theSpe-ed SFE-4 oven can accommodate up to 4 high pressure vessels.
Supercritical Fluid Systems
Laboratory Scale Supercritical Systems
Spe-ed SFE Analytical/Research Systems. The Spe-ed SFE Series for the Laboratory, ranging from the modular, Helix system to the Spe-ed SFE-Basic for Education, was designed to meet the rigorous needs of day-to-day use in the research lab. They are simple to operate, fast and affordable, with unique features not found in other SCF systems.
Large Scale Production Systems
The Applied Separations engineering team has over 25 years experience involving literally thousands of systems, each designed to operate within the unique requirements of the individual customer. Every day, the ASI engineering team relies on that experience to develop customized systems designed to meet or exceed the demands of our customers. Our customers rely on ASI to assess the feasibility of a project and provide factual information about the cost and operation of a unit.
Applied Separations - Pilot Plants
Applied Separations, Inc. offers SCF systems in any size and configuration. Although the size of a pilot system versus a production system is arbitrary, customarily, Applied Separations designates pilot systems as having extraction/reaction vessels from 5 liters to 80 liters. Greater than 80 liters, we consider production scale. Applied Separations, Inc. will work with you one-on-one to design your custom, multipurpose, movable pilot plant/small production system. The system may be as straight forward as a manual system having one extractor vessel and venting to atmosphere to an automated system having multiple extraction/reaction vessels with multiple separators, recycling the CO2.

Helix - Laboratory Supercritical Process Development Unit
The Helix™ Laboratory Supercritical Process Development Unit is a modular system designed for maximum flexibility and scalability. Depending on your needs, this unit can be configured to handle a multitude of tasks, using only the modules you require for your specific process.
Solid Phase Extraction - Solid Phase Extraction Consumables
Standard Filled Cartridges
Choose Spe-ed SPE products for the highest quality cartridges and the greatest selection available. Standard extraction columns are straight-walled polypropylene syringe barrel tubes designed for fast, easy, and exact sample preparations. These cartridges are available in 1mL, 3mL, 6mL, 12mL, 20mL, 35mL, and 60mL sizes. Many of our standard silica-based sorbents are packed and available off the shelf for shipping the next business day in the following configurations. For additional packings, frits/filters, cartridge size, type, and sorbent weight.
Large Reservoir Cartridges
The wide openings of both the 100mg and 500 mg (the nominal amount of sorbent) large reservoir cartridges (LRC) allow for sample or rinse volumes greater than that allowed by the standard cartridge. The flared shape accommodates 15mL of sample without using additional reservoirs or adaptors.
Flangeless and Rimless Cartridges
Selection of Flangeless and Rimless Cartridges. Today’s fully automated SPE processing systems require an SPE cartridge configuration that has been specially adapted to fit these instruments. Applied Separations’ Flangeless cartridges do not have the flange, or tab that is found at the top of Applied Separations’ Standard SPE cartridge. A full selection of rimless cartridges is also available.
Solid Phase Extraction
DNA/RNA-Free Processing System
Applied Separations offers custom filling in certified, DNA/RNA-free cleanroom facilities for the contract filling of filters, packings, sorbents (proprietary or generic) in spin baskets, polypropylene cartridges, and 96-well microtiter plates, or any other configuration. We can make specialty cartridges - use your mold or ours.
Protein Precipitations
Burst for Protein Precipitations
Applied Separations announces the addition of the new Burst device for clinical and diagnostic applications. The Burst device is faster, simpler, more accurate, and less expensive than traditional methods. The Burst eliminates the pipette step, also eliminating contamination and sample loss, and is available in a variety of devices and formats.
