The 75 watt UV lamp provides two important functions. Function 1 is the eradication of algae. The UV penetration inside the RDF is more effective than inside traditional tubes. The 75 watt UV lamp is capable of servicing a 20000 gallon pond and has a two year use life. Function 2 is the eradication and prevention of bacterial growth on the drum screen. Bacterial growth on an RDF screen can interfere with its normal operation. Utilizing the UV does away with the need to clean the screen with chemicals, like acid.
