Containers
Out of the 21 ABP ports there are eight ports involved in the handling of containers; however, the ABP ports particularly involved in container terminal operations are Southampton, Hull, Immingham, and Cardiff, which together handle nearly 2 million teus each year. At these ports, the terminals are either directly operated by ABP or, as in the case of Southampton and Hull, by DP World Southampton and PD Ports respectively. At Southampton, the container terminal operated by DP World Southampton - a joint venture between ABP and DP World - is the second largest container terminal in the UK, predominantly serving the Far East market and handling 1.5m teus each year.
Steel And Other Metals
More than half of ABP`s ports handle a wide range of steel, metal, and metal cargoes, including recycled metal for export. Nearly 3.5 million tonnes of these products are handled through ABP ports each year. ABP`s ports are noted in the industry for their long-standing relationships with major UK and international steel producers and customers. ABP has provided dedicated facilities for these high-quality cargoes, including the steel terminals at Goole, Newport, Cardiff, and Hull. With these facilities operated by companies who are leaders in this field through their investment in equipment, staff, and state-of-the art IT systems, the aim of this community is to provide real cargo care environments while meeting exacting supply chain demands.
Roll-On / Roll-Off
From the UK to Scandinavia, northern and southern Europe - from Holland to Spain - and Ireland, ABP has services to offer freight and passengers with or without cars. ABP`s eight ports accommodating roro, freight passengers, trade cars, and vehicles, handle in excess of 820,000 units and 1.5 million passengers each year. The Ports of Southampton and Grimsby have dedicated facilities for, in particular, the import and export of trade cars. At Southampton, ABP has invested in the construction of four multi-deck car park facilities to handle the export of cars, while at Grimsby it is expected that the £25 million Grimsby Riverside Terminal will be open in 2013 to cement the port`s position as the UK`s foremost import car terminal.
