Hazardous waste treatment
Augean’s Treatment division is able to offer specialist waste management services for all types of hazardous waste which are not suitable for direct disposal to landfill. Terramundo Ltd, a joint venture between Augean Plc and DEC NV, is the UK’s largest contaminated soil treatment and recycling facility. This new facility can treat a wide range of soils contaminated with organic and/or inorganic materials such as gasworks soils, material from petrol station developments and dredging sediments. Terramundo offers facilities for the unloading of ship borne waste together with excellent road networks, allowing deliveries by land or sea from anywhere in the UK.Low Level Radioactive Waste
The energy from nuclear power enjoyed in the UK over the past 50 years has left a long term legacy which for environmental and cost reasons the Government is anxious to address. While media and public interest is largely focused on high level radioactive material the vast majority (by several orders of magnitude) of nuclear waste, referred to as low level waste (LLW), has only a small amount of radioactivity activity and is of low risk. Although this waste is principally demolition waste and inert in nature, due to its small radioactive content LLW represents a national liability.
