AWE - Penstocks
Penstocks are also known and referred to as sluice gates, slide gates or water gates. The word ‘penstock’ originates from the days of water mills where a pond (a body of stored or ‘penned up’ water) was used to feed the water wheel or mill race and was referred to as the ‘pen’. The timber stoplogs used to control the flow onto the water wheel was called the ‘stock’. Later, as the need to accurately control the speed of the water wheel became more critical, a single sliding gate operated with a lifting mechanism replaced the stoplogs. During the 17th century, the words ‘pen’ and ‘stock’ became combined into a single word – PENSTOCK.

AWE - Mud Valves
AWE designs and manufactures mud valves in all sizes and configurations for tank draining and sludge draw off applications constructed in grade 316 stainless steel and marine grade aluminium as standard. AWE - Scum Skimmers
AWE designs and manufactures rotating scum skimmers in all sizes and configurations for removal of floating contaminates and debris from the water treatment process constructed in grade 316 stainless steel and marine grade aluminium as standard. These materials offer a high level of corrosion resistance for arduous demanding applications resulting in a longer life cycle with minimal maintenance. Other materials of construction such as duplex stainless steels are available upon request. Scum skimmers are also known and referred to as oil skimmers or scum canoes.
AWE - Model PRF Series - Groundwater Hydrostatic Pressure Relief Valves
AWE offers a range of Hydrostatic Pressure Relief Valves for applications where it is necessary to equalise pressure differential between external groundwater and internal tank levels to prevent floatation and excessive base slab loading. External groundwater pressure automatically opens the valve allowing the pressure exerted on the tank to balance with the internal pressure. The valves are commonly cast into the floor base slabs of concrete tank structures. However, side wall mounted versions are available to be installed at the bottom of tank walls.
