This patented process by Longworth utilizes a combination of pressure swings, involving compression and decompression cycles, to tackle frozen polymers contaminating components and assemblies. Operating in a controlled environment, the system`s custom pressure vessel encases the items to be cleaned, where superheated steam heats polymers to temperatures exceeding 250°C, triggering melting and hydrolysis. During decompression, the steam transforms to superheated water, penetrating polymer fissures, and boiling upon rapid pressure reduction, breaking down polymers into particles and fragments. This cycle is repeated automatically, preserving the integrity of filter media and metal structures.
