Shavings are fed to the machine by means of the Feed Hopper provided.  This is normally extended by several metres when installed to give a reasonably large storage area above. This will cope with local surges and smooth out the feed rate to the Baler. Each bale is made by one stroke of the compression ram, which is activated by an Infrared sensing device in the Hopper. When this ram has reached the fully forward position (bale fully compressed) the gate on the baler will open allowing the long eject cylinder to eject the compressed bale out of the bagging spout.  This will only happen provided the sealing unit on the machine is activated and the polythene roll has been placed in the machine wrapped around the forming tube.
