Online audits are carried out with an ESP operating in normal mode, ie collecting dust. Precipitator characteristics are examined by acquiring and analysing data relating to inlet burden, outlet burden, dust characteristics, rapping data, peak, average and minimum voltages and currents for each precipitator load. The data is then used to determine precipitator efficiency and barriers to improved performance such as back corona, sparking and other precipitator problems.

Offline audits record measurements with cold, still air between the electrodes. Before internal cleaning, an inspection is performed to check for rapping and airflow problems. After cleaning, a mechanical, electrical and structural inspection is undertaken. A full report with prioritised recommendations is issued upon completion. Photographs of inspection findings are included when deemed useful to enhancing the report.

Off-site modelling of precipitator performance is an economical way to predict future performance under a variety of charged conditions such as different fuel types, production rates and precipitator modifications. Both empirical and theoretical first principle models are used with modern powerful computing platforms to enable performance to be predicted before costly upgrades.
