Yeast Management

Inline Yeast Viability Counter (For Pitching/ Cropping)

The importance of yeast management in a brewery cannot be overstated. Chris Boulton and David Quain rightly put it when they said, “If I was a yeast cell I would want to be looked after, cherished even!”. Understanding how many live yeast cells are working for you is one of the most important facets of yeast management. Better yeast management can directly lead to more consistent fermentations and beer quality, reduced fermentation times, reduced production of off-flavours, financial benefits etc.

Yeast Propagation Monitor (New Application)

Many of the world’s leading brewing companies now understand the benefits of producing a yeast growth profile over the entire propagation period from start to finish.  We can recommend the best Compact Yeast Monitor set-up optimised for this operation. The data from the Yeast Monitor can be used to determine: The initial concentration in the propagator after pitching. The rate of cell growth in the propagator; this will pick up an early indication if the yeast cells are growing at the correct rate or if the propagation has become “stuck” due to underpitching or poor quality seed. A target peak cell concentration; this value is usually the most important one as propagation might be stopped at a certain critical concentration or the final value might be used to calculate the dosing volume into a full production vessel.

Brewer`S Yeast Counter (Laboratory/ Offline)

The Aber Countstar can be used for rapid counting of yeast cells and viability estimation. The Countstar is simple to operate and eliminates the time consuming, tedious and potentially error prone haemocytometer operation. Speed up counting and minimize inter-operator errors with the aber countstar: Graph shows inter-operator variability. It is clear that a much higher variation was seen when four users perform viability estimation for yeast samples using the haemocytometer.
