Ironton-Russell Bridge
This project includes the replacement of the existing Ironton-Russell Bridge, which is a major crossing of the Ohio River between the towns of Ironton, OH and Russell, KY. The scope to complete this project requires cast in place concrete piers with a superstructure containing three million pounds of structural steel, which will be erected from land-based equipment.
Marine & Piling
First Energy Diffuser
This project extended an existing outfall below water to a six port duck bill diffuser. Work included the installation of 30in. HDPE pipe, elbows, flanges and concrete anchor blocks. The entire assembly was then covered with a protective layer of aggregate and articulated concrete mat. The project required close coordination between our team, plant personnel and divers to eliminate impacts on the plant and to adjust for frequent changes in river conditions.
Drilling & Grouting
Essroc Facility Services
The original scope of work for this project was for the design and installation of approximately 800 micropiles for roughly one half of the intended plant expansion. The micropiles were designed for 350tons axial compression, 125tons axial tension and 15tons lateral load capacity. The design called for the use of a minimum 11-3/4in OD casing and corresponding core steel to meet the required design capacities. With pile lengths from 50 to 150ft in length due to the karst characteristics of the local geology, drill casing availability became a major concern. With shortages in the supply of the 11-3/4in pipe, Brayman utilized other available sizes (11-7/8in & 12-3/8in) to meet the demands of the project.
