Today Britannia has the technical expertise and manufacturing facilities in the UK to build complete turnkey SCR packages for drilling rigs.

Britannia manufacture complete AC Drilling packages based on ABB`s digital drive and control technologies.  The breakthrough for AC drilling drives came in 1994 when Shell/Statoil installed ABB and the world`s first AC Drilling Drive at the Troll A Platform in the North Sea. This installation quickly revealed the advantages of AC drilling drives, and set a standard for the future. ABB is today Number One in this market and one of very few international players offering in-house product portfolio and experience to manage total deliveries.

Our digital solution is based on the Woodward 2301D digital load sharinga and speed control package, and the Basler DECS-200 Digital Excitation Control System.

Britannia manufacture and supply propulsion systems for ships. Our propulsion systems developed from supplying drilling SCR systems for Semi-Submersibles, Drillships and Jack-Ups. In these instances, Britannia can provide a complete integrated, turnkey package with the drive units being dual-purposed for drilling duties or driving propulsion, thrusters or anchor winches. Britannia also manufacture bridge, wing and engine room control consoles and winch control panels, and can supply motor control panels, emergency generator controls, transformers and switchgear for any marine application.

Britannia  has the engineering expertise and experience to design, build and install upgrades to existing systems. Where additional generating capacity is required, we can conduct a fault level study and examine the feasibility of upgrading a system and follow that up with a modification and manufacturing program to complete the job. Modern drilling practices demand additional mud pumping capabilities which was not envisioned in older systems. Britannia can revitalise a rig by adding a third Mud Pump and add-on mini console.
