Activated Carbons

CarboTech - Extruded Activated Carbon

Moulded in extruded form as cylindrical pellets, extruded activated carbon mostly consists of 1.5 mm to 4- or 5-millimeter sized pellets. The highly adsorptive as well as low-dust extruded activated carbons can be used in a very wide range of applications. With their high mechanical hardness, advantageous adsorption properties and good reactivability depending on the adsorbed substance, they are often used in air and gas purification and water treatment.

CarboTech - Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

Granular activated carbon consists of irregularly shaped particles, depending on the screening in sizes between 0.2 and up to a few millimeters. The fine- to medium-grained granulated carbons are activated from the base material directly or after an agglomeration step. Activated carbon granules are mainly used for water treatment. A high density as well as level of activity has a positive effect on their operating or service life.

CarboTech - Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)

Powdered activated carbons, also known as PAC is a form of product containing small particles of activated carbon with a particle size between 50 (in other grinding processes also 0.1) and up to 200 µm. They are produced by crushing and very fine grinding of activated carbon. Grain sizes in the range of a few micrometers are common. Thanks to their porous structure, powdered activated carbons achieve very high specific surface areas.

CarboTech - Spherical Activated Carbons

Spherical activated carbons are characterized by their extremely high abrasion resistance and small grain size (grain size: 0.5 – 0.8 mm). They consist of more than 80 percent micropores. Spherical activated carbons are used in particular in thin-layer filters embedded in polymer foam matrices (e.g. in the automotive sector for cleaning cabin air). Activated carbon spheres can be fixed to carrier materials in a point-like manner, so that almost the entire outer surface remains active for substance exchange.

CarboTech - Activated Carbon Fibers (ACF) or Fiber Mats

Activated Carbon Fiber (ACF) are highly efficient form of activated carbon. With their large specific surface area, large pore volume and high proportion of micropores (diameter 1 – 2 nm), ACF are highly demanded products. Thanks to their significantly greater capacity and adsorption speed, activated carbon fibers show an advantage over granular activated carbon.ide (H2S, AsH3, radioactive isotopes) and potassium carbonate (HCl, HF, SO2).

Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS)

CarboTech - Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS)

CarboTech is known across the world for innovations in the field of activated carbon. One thing to come out of our research and development work has been carbon molecular sieve (CMS) technology which is used in nitrogen production and other applications. To obtain high-purity nitrogen, manufacturers rely on pressure swing adsorption (PSA). Compressed air is fed alternately into two containers filled with CMSs which capture oxygen molecules, leaving extremely pure nitrogen which is then directed into downstream collection tanks from where it can be fed directly into the customer’s grid.
