Helical Lead Section Piles

The ROCK-IT Lead Section is an innovative solution to penetrate rocky or high blow count soils without pre-drilling or field modification.  The single carbide, patent pending design was developed after site testing of several rock anchor configurations to provide an economical, yet proven solution to reach load-bearing depths in high blow count material.

Square Shaft/ Round Shaft Lead Section Piles

The first section or lead section contains the helical plates. This lead section can consist of a single helix or up to four helices. Additional helices can be added, if required, with the use of helical extensions. Standard helix sizes are shown in the table to the right. The helices are arranged on the shaft such that their diameters increase as they get farther from the pilot point. The practical limit on the number of helices per anchor/pile is four to five if placed in a cohesive soil and six if placed in a cohesionless or granular soil. Plain extensions are then added in standard lengths of 3, 5, 7 and 10 feet until the lead section penetrates into the bearing strata.

Square Shaft / Round Shaft Extensions Helical Piles

Plain extensions , either square or round, are added in standard lengths of 3, 5, 7 and 10 feet until the lead section penetrates into the bearing strata. Typically, square shaft extensions can be used in both compression and tension applications. Round shafts are more commonly used for compression and have a greater section modulus, resisting bending in weaker soils.

CHANCE - Combination Helical Cast Transition Piles

The transition section adapts type Square Shaft (SS) helical lead sections to type Round. Shaft (RS) extensions. The type RS-SS combination transition is used mainly in compression applications in areas where soft/loose soils are located above hard/ dense soils. The type RS material is less susceptible to buckling, provides greater lateral capacity, and greater moment capacity, than type SS material. A square shaft lead will allow better penetration of the helices into hard/dense material than round shaft (RS). SS reduces the occurrence of “spin-out” (loss of thrust of helices).

Underpinning Brackets

Standard-Duty Underpinning Brackets for Helical Pile Foundation System. For use with 1 1/2″ and 1 3/4″ square shaft anchors, as specified below, each bracket is identified by the size stamped on the vertical gusset. Brackets also may be used in conjunction with Uplift-Restraint Bracket. Bracket comes complete with the hardware required for assembly of bracket; does not include concrete anchor bolts. The lifting assembly, consisting of the underpinning bracket and jacking tool, is designed to lift with hydraulic jack assist as shown below. However, if jack assist is not available, lifting can be done with the bolts of the bracket. The recommended method is to use a hydraulic jack with a load gauge to avoid exceeding the ratings of the brackets.

The multi-arm slab bracket is designed to assist in the reduction of piles required for slab-on-grade foundation remediation and to provide pile location flexibility.
