Aeration Technology

Blowers

The blowers are specially modified to the "unfavourable conditions" in biological waste treatment plants. Different sizes are available and are customised to every plant and every composting windrow. This leads to an ideal rate of air flow and beneficial operating cost. Dependent on constructional conditions and the material which should be treated, it is possible to design the aeration system for negative or positive aeration. Every aeration duct can be operated individually. Optionally all process blowers can be placed in a container. The container is delivered to the plant completely pre-installed; blowers, ducts valves and connections are complete. This reduces the interfaces between the various suppliers.

COMPOair - Concrete Ducts

Concrete ducts have proven themselves in the sewage industry for decades. We have used our long-term experience and integrated the advantages of concrete pipes into our aeration system (i.e. looked at stability, cost of purchasing and laying the ducts and protection against aggressive attacks). The big cross-section of the pipe achieves an equal air distribution over the whole length of the compost windrow. This allows for large lengths of the ducts up to 100 m. The concrete aeration duct is directly incorporated into the composting floor (infloor aeration) and can be traversed by any machine (up to 60 tons). The innovative modular system allows implementation of any size of plant. Specifically developed conical jets minimise the risk of plugging. The ideal egg-shape of the drain cross-section secures quick drainage of the leachate water. The COMPOair aeration ducts can be incorporated into both new plants and existing composting areas. The laying is done quickly and cost-effectively.

COMPOtainer - Pre-Fabricated Aeration Station

The COMPOtainer is a pre-fabricated aeration station which is supplied fully-assembled as a "Plug and Play" solution to the construction site. Optionally you can integrate a climatized control room. Thereby important interfaces to other buildings are reduced and simplified. Additionally the COMPOtainer offers great protection against theft and also reduces noise emissions significantly. In case of negative aeration, exhaust air is unified in a collection duct and directly transferred to the biofilter.

ICA System

Control System

Our control system is the joint control centre for the aeration systems. Temperatures are read automatically by the temperature monitoring system. The aeration period is dependent on the process and can be controlled for the individual compost windrow. The touch panel enables simple handling and adaption of parameter. Additionally, our control system is directly connected with a monitoring software. Changes of parameter are adapted in both systems. The compost control system is delivered as a pre-installed and complete-wired unit (PLC, touch panel, motor protection, control cabinet, etc).

Air Treatment

Biofilters

Biofilters have proven themselves in practise to be the simplest and most cost-efficient way to treat exhaust air. The air is distributed equally over the whole biofilter surface. Odours are biologically degraded in a fill of root wood, wood chips and other materials. In order to ensure optimum operation and to avoid odour emissions, important process parameters are measured with our ICA system. The size of the biofilter depends on the rate of the exhaust air. The system is easy to use and offers high reliability. The system enables optimum air treatment at minimum costs.

Air Conditioning System

In order to reach optimum degradation performance within the biofilter it is necessary to pre-condition the exhaust air. Depending on the size of the plants, exhaust air is pre-cleaned within an acid scrubber in order to wash out aggressive substances like ammonia. A washbox saturates the air to maximum humidity (full saturation) to prevent, that the filter media of the biofilter dries out.

Box Systems

Box Doors

The box doors which are easily operated with hydraulic systems, fold upwards so that they leave the action area of the wheel loader. The external door construction is not exposed to the aggressive climate of the boxes.

Roofs

Depending on the technical and legal requirements, we use two different types of roof: Air-tight box tarpaulin, Semi-permeable filter membrane. It is necessary to use a biofilter for the air treatment when using an air-tight box tarpaulin. The semi-permeable filter membrane is able to clean the exhaust air through the membrane. It should be noted that the membrane surface needs to be adapted to the amount of treated material.
