The CSIC is a public research organization in which the right to equality and gender non-discrimination is respected while promoting the conditions so that individual equality is real and effective.

The CSIC has traditionally maintained an explicit commitment to equal opportunities between women and men in their working conditions, fulfilling the regulatory mandate of equality legislation, integrating the spirit of said legislation into its operation and organizational culture and aligning its actions. with the objectives of the European Research Area (ERA), ensuring the effective promotion of gender equality and the integration of the gender perspective in the content of research and innovation.

The CSIC was a pioneer, within the General Administration of the State, in the development of equality policies with the creation, in 2002, of the Women and Science Commission , whose mission is to advise the Presidency of the CSIC and carry out studies and monitoring and propose actions to optimize the scientific career of women in the organization.

Subsequently, in 2011, on the occasion of the preparation of the First Plan for equality between women and men in the AGE and its Public Bodies, the Delegate Commission for Equality in the CSIC was created and launched , in charge of developing actions in favor of the effective equality of CSIC employees.

In 2018, the Presidency of the CSIC established the “Gender Equality Accreditation Badge”, the objective of which is to recognize those CSIC centers or institutes that promote the gender perspective as a transversal category in all aspects of their operation and advance the promotion of measures aimed at eliminating the barriers that women encounter in the exercise of their profession. It is also worth highlighting the dissemination campaign “They are CSIC” and the commemorative events that are regularly held on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11) and International Women`s Day (March 8 ).
