Water Resources Management
Management of Ground and Surface Water Resources Sustainable management of ground and surface water resources is the basis for provision of effi - cient and safe water supply for urban areas, agri - culture, trade, and industry. Our fields of activity comprise determination of catchment zones for the construction of wells, assistance in legal per - mit procedures as well as preparation of dispos - al and recycling strategies. Detailed assessment of the raw water availability by means of hydrau - lic testing, monitoring, and numerical modeling of groundwater flows allows for the set-up of ap - propriate water balances.Assessment of Soil and Groundwater Contamination
Hazardous soil and groundwater contamina tions can cause enormous damages for human individuals as well as fauna and flora. Therefore, remediation of contaminated sites aims at the protection of precious water resources, prevention of health and environmental dangers and the reuse of areas formerly used for industrial, commercial, or military purposes. We have long-standing experience with different groups of hazardous substances including gasoline, kerosene, chemical residues, pesticides, and warfare agents.
Groundwater Rehabilitation Plants
According to the type of groundwater and soil contamination, we develop tailor-made process layouts for mechanical, biological and/or chemical groundwater rehabilitation plants. Prior to planning of remediation schemes we utilize two and three-dimensional mathemati- cal models for simulating groundwater flow and transportation. Strategies for complex in situ and on site treatment plants may be combined with individual groundwater, surface water or surface-to-air remediation technologies aiming at good treatment results and minimized plant operation cost.River Basin Management
For proper management of river catchment areas a variety of institutional, technical, and economic constraints have to be considered. Typical activi -ties comprise assessment of surface and ground -water use, potentials for irrigation, reservoir performances, water supply capacities, wastewater treatment requirements. Our further activities comprise clarification of institutional and legal requirements, economic analysis of river basins, calculation of cost-covering water prices, development of integrated economic, ecological, and social sound methods of river basin management and decision support.Geographical Information Systems
For the development and management of ground and surface water resources as well as for the operation of wells and groundwater rehabilitation plants we apply geographical in-formation systems. Utilizing large volumes of data based on comprehensive monitoring and surveys application of GIS allows for preparation of digital models demonstrating comprehensive information on actual condition and time wise change of water resources.
