The Gorilla ROV from Copenhagen Subsea A/S is based on our reliable rim-driven thruster technology which, combined with industrial electronics from the leading Japanese company OMRON, gives an unprecedented level of reliability.

The maneuvering subsea system consists of everything from the control panel to the thrusters. The system is based on industrial and reliable components throughout the whole solution. The system is fully electric and is therefore completely oil-free. 

The control panel is designed with a built-in PLC industrial computer from OMRON. The joystick enables easy control of the position and heading of the subsea tool. Further, the HMI provides an overview of all relevant data of the system.

The control cabinet is designed with industrial electronics and controllers from OMRON. The controllers provided are MX2 controllers together with a configuration file. The cabinet operates with a power supply of 3x400 VAC and is made in stainless steel such it is suitable for outdoor use.

The AUV bracket is designed in different versions; short and long versions. Copenhagen Subsea can provide the AUV bracket for all the thruster versions (VS - VXL). The bracket is 3D printed and made of composite material. This makes the AUV bracket strong and robust to operate in a demanding subsea environment. 

The VS is a small but powerful thruster. The VS thruster provides your subsea vehicle with a thrust force of up to 200 Newton.  The VS accommodates supply voltage between 24-800 VDC.

The VM is a compact thruster with a high thrust force for its size. The VM thruster provides your subsea vehicle with a thrust force of up to 480 Newton.  The VM accommodates supply voltage between 24-800 VDC.

We offer two types of propeller: symmetric and asymmetric. The propeller is manufactured in a unique combination of two printing materials which provides both strength and durability. The use of 3D printing allows us to continuously update the hydrodynamic propeller profile and offer improved versions of the propeller to our customers.

The inlet and outlet rings are made in a special neutral buoyant polymer which has the unique characteristics to fulfill the requirements for subsea operations. The inlet and outlet rings may be added to improve the hydrodynamic performance of the thruster. Moreover, the rings are part of the optimization for asymmetric operation during which the thruster becomes extra efficient in one direction.

In order to perform maintenance on the rotor, it is necessary to partly disassemble the motor. This is done in two steps. First, apply the bearing puller and remove the bearing ring. Second, apply the rotor puller and pull out the rotor from the stator housing in a safe way, as described below.
