Landscape and Place-Making
Landscape Ecology
Landscape ecology is an inter-disciplinary science that aids understanding of ecosystems: their geographical patterns, interactions and the natural processes that take place within them. It looks at how the geography of a landscape affects ecological processes, such as the distribution and flow of energy, materials and organisms, as well as the behaviour and function of the landscape as a whole. Our team has many years experience in using the principles of landscape ecology to develop strategies for managing habitats and ecological networks (or green infrastructure). We have expertise in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support landscape-scale planning and decision-making. We are also closely involved with the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE), which ensures our work is informed by best practice from across the UK and overseas.
Modelling and Visualisation
Our creative and technical skills combine to offer a range of landscape modelling and visualisation services, including: maps and masterplans; sketches and illustrations; spatial models and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Maps and GIS
Cartography and Map Making
We take pride in designing high quality maps that are clear and easily understood by everyone. Our cartographic (or map design) skills focus on prioritising key sites, routes, patterns and trends relevant to target audiences: be they visitors to a tourist destination, a community group planning new projects, or land managers wanting a clearer picture of their local environment and resources. We can also use maps as a way of helping to communicate messages and illustrate or visualise ideas, adding a sense of place to plans and proposals. Furthermore, we have access to the latest printing technologies, capable of producing detailed maps at any size.
Geographic Information Systems
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer software for helping people to manage and make sense of geographical data. A GIS can be used to record, store, analyse, share and display any type of information that is linked to a location.
Interactive Maps
Interactive maps are a great way of promoting sites and services, as well as helping people to share information, visualise proposals and make their views known. They can be used to: Bring places to life as part of interpretation projects Advertise the location of sites and services, Consult with stakeholders, Help people to navigate trails and routes, Collect and share geographical information.
Events and Engagement
Consultation
We have a proven background in managing successful consultations at every scale: from local events to national campaigns. Our experience includes consulting with specialist audiences, the general public, young people and disadvantaged groups around a wide range of issues. Our approach focuses on accessibility and ease of involvement. We achieve this by using our creativity and understanding to communicate often complex issues with clarity and relevance, enabling participants to make informed choices and provide feedback in easy and convenient ways.
Event Management
We offer a comprehensive event management service, covering all aspects of planning, organising, running and reporting on events and workshops
Facilitation
Our team includes skilled facilitators, capable of hosting events and workshops of all sizes, involving people of all backgrounds. We have considerable experience in working with specialist topics and audiences, as well as running events that are inclusive and accessible to everyone, often bringing together diverse stakeholders around a shared issue or goal.
