CVW CleanTech - Creating Value from Waste Technology

Titanium Corporation is a clean technology innovator focused on providing solutions to the mining sector of Canada’s oil sands industry.  The Company has developed a suite of technologies called Creating Value from Waste™ (“CVW™”) that recover bitumen, solvents, valuable minerals and water from oil sands froth treatment tailings. Titanium`s technology is designed to intercept oil sands froth treatment tailings before discharge to tailings ponds, recover high quality commodities that are currently lost to tailings ponds and thicken these residual tailings for their permanent deposit in designated disposal areas.

CVW CleanTech - Generic Oil Sands Mining Site Process and Technology

Installation of CVW CleanTech’s project at a generic oil sands mining site is estimated to provide the following socio-economic benefits: 2.2 million barrels of hydrocarbons (1.9 MMbbl/a bitumen and 0.3 MMbbl/a solvent) recovered annually.

CVW CleanTech - Hydrocarbons Technology

Bitumen, a crude oil found in Athabasca oil sands deposits, is an extra-heavy oil characterized by an API gravity less than 10° and viscosity greater than 105 mPa.s.  It is comprised of a mixture of hydrocarbons with non-metallic derivatives that occur naturally in the Cretaceous McMurray formation and elsewhere globally.

CVW CleanTech - Titanium Technology

Over 90% of the world’s titanium minerals are sold as feedstock into the pigment industry which manufactures products for the paint, coatings, paper and plastic industries. Titanium-bearing minerals, such as rutile, leucoxene and ilmenite are converted into titanium dioxide pigment using either a chloride or sulphate process.

CVW CleanTech, - Zircon Technology

CVW CleanTech Inc. is at the forefront of the zircon market by proposing innovative solutions that can potentially address up to 15% of the global zircon demand through its CVW™ technology. Zircon, or zircon silicate (ZrSiO4), is a critical mineral known for its thermal stability and reflective properties, thus having significant applications in the ceramics industry, especially in the production of tiles and fixtures. Beyond ceramics, zircon sand is processed into fused zirconia, zirconium chemicals, chemical zirconia, and zirconium metal, which are essential for various industrial applications, including foundries and refractories. The extraction of zirconium metal utilizes chemical leaching and chlorination processes to ensure purity and performance in specialized chemical uses. The global demand for zircon currently exceeds 1 million tonnes per annum, with China being a principal consumer, absorbing over half of the world's supply. Due to depleting resources, meeting future demand poses a significant challenge that CVW CleanTech seeks to address.

CVW CleanTech - Pilot Plant Technology

CVW™ hydrocarbon recovery technologies were installed at the CanmetENERGY demonstration pilot in Devon, Alberta, and piloted on an integrated and continuous basis at industry-platform scale with tailings provided by an SDTC Consortium of CNRL, Syncrude and Suncor, later joined by Imperial and Total E&P. CVW CleanTech also established a minerals facility at CanmetENERGY and conducted piloting at large-scale minerals test facilities in Brisbane, Australia. Results from this extensive demonstration piloting have been verified by oil sands operators (Syncrude, Canadian Natural, Suncor, Total E&P), engineering firms (SNC Lavalin, Worley Parsons, Stantec Consulting), and government agencies (Sustainable Development Technology Canada, Alberta Energy, Natural Resources Canada, Alberta Innovates). Piloting results confirm hydrocarbon recoveries and commercial quantities of high quality valuable critical minerals (zircon and titanium), improved tailings remediation and improved hot water recycling.
