Temperature Sensors - Contact Temperature Sensors

Delta-T - Basics Thermocouple

Thomas Seebeck discovered in 1821 that when two wires composed of dissimilar metals are joined at both ends and one of the ends is heated, there is a continuous current which flows in the thermoelectric circuit. (Seebeck effect). The junctions can be exposed, grounded or ungrounded. The thermocouple is normally directly connected to a standard temperature controller. Thermocouples are among the easiest temperature sensors used in science and industry and very cost effective. (usually less than $ 50.00) Most of the thermocouples are custom made with lead times of 24hrs if needed.

Temperature Controllers

Delta-T - Temperature Controllers

For accurate control of the process temperature without constant operator involvement all industrial thermal process relay upon a controller. The controller gets is inputs from contact temperature sensors like thermocouple, RTD or from a non-contact temperature sensor like an infrared temperature sensor. The controller transmits an electrical signal (current or voltage) to a power switch device which can be a simple relay, a solid state relay or a SCR (Silicone Controlled Rectifier).

Electrical Power Switching

Delta-T - Electromagnetic Relay for Temperature Control

This type of electrical switch is widely used for switching power since 1835. It is operated by an electromagnet to open or close the contact. The relay receives a low voltage input signal from the temperature controller. This low voltage signal creates an electromagnetic field which attracts a mechanically linked contact. Returning to the relaxed state is done by a spring.
