Conventional wastewater treatment systems are focused on efficient removal of polluting components. This is commonly done through aeration and separation of formed biomass from the cleaned water. After treatment the water would be discharged onto surface waters or subsoil irrigation. Introduction of polishing steps after these treatment systems opened up the possibilities to reuse water for either irrigation or even potable water. DMT Environmental Technology also implements these solutions with its MemBioRex membrane bioreactor. Nowadays novel technologies enable reuse of saline water within industries such as unconventional oil and gas, industry, agriculture, and mining.
