Research and Development Services

The determination to make things better is the driving force behind all the research and development activities of the DVGW. The objective is to transfer the results of research work to products and processes which maintain the leading international position of the German gas and water industry. Safety, hygiene and environmental protection are the top priorities.

Technical Consultancy Services

The institutes, research facilities and subsidiaries in the DVGW network provide comprehensive advice on important technical issues in the gas and water sector. Our consulting services are divided into six main areas: In addition to technology, technical safety and hygiene, the areas of environmental protection, efficiency and IT are also covered. The range of consulting services is interdisciplinary and cross-divisional.

Safety and Quality Management Services

DVGW`s Technical Safety Management provides an industry-specific solution for achieving and checking organisational safety. The TSM was developed specifically to ensure proper gas and water supply and is therefore the means of choice if a utility company wants to minimise its liability risks with regard to its organisational structure and process organisation and to consolidate the security of action for employees and managers. In addition, the TSM is an instrument to be used at a manageable cost, which supports the introduction with determination of the status quo, identification of fields of action and self-assessment of the companies by using the questions from the TSM guidelines of the DVGW.

Standardisation Services

The DVGW standards are a clear manifestation of technical self-regulation in Germany. Specialists from the gas and water industry shape the standards themselves and German law specifi cally refers to these documents. This principle indicates on the one hand “best practice” solutions, on the other hand it supports the compliance with legal requirements. The pooling of specialist competence at the national level lays the foundation for international cooperation within Europe and beyond. Within the standardization bodies DIN, CEN and ISO, DVGW plays a key role in shaping European and international standards.
