EPF™ 4100 is an example of an engineered water specifically targeted at cooling plastic extruder barrel zones. The barrel zone cooler on a plastic-extrusion machine experiences temperatures in excess of 500°F, at which point water vaporizes and corrosion and scale occur, plugging the critical solenoid valves. As the temperature rises in the barrel, damage to the machine causes the loss of product and production time. Downtime is extremely costly. Disinfection – be it for cleaning in place (CIP), emergency or secondary potable water disinfection, or keeping cooling towers free of biological growth – usually requires the shipping, storage and handling of hazardous chemicals. Additionally, the purchased supply of chlorine we use dissipates fast. Water softening, or water conditioning, is the process of removing excess mineral content from a water source. A commercial water softener system is an essential water pretreatment solution for industrial and commercial facilities in most areas of the country. Most commercial water conditioners work by passing the water through a salt-based medium. When this happens, a chemical process called ion exchange takes place — where the calcium and magnesium ions in the water are replaced by sodium ions. The result is “softened” water that does not cause scale. Softened water is far less damaging to industrial equipment, and can greatly increase the efficiency of your equipment and plant.
