Electrostatic precipitators with their countless areas of application remain the most economical system for the removal of dust from industrial gases. Operating costs are reduced due to low energy consumption, and the cost of maintenance and spare parts is very low. In addition, the life expectancy of an electrostatic precipitator usually exceeds that of the upstream production units, such as kilns, mills, driers and coolers.

In the case of certain gas-cleaning processes, particularly in the cement industry, it may be necessary to cool down the gases prior to the cleaning process or to condition the gases to the most favourable physical state. The operating principle of an evaporative cooling tower system is simple. By injecting water in very fine droplet sizes which are subsequently evaporated, the temperature of the waste gas is lowered to the necessary level and its volume and the specific resistance of the dust in the gas is reduced. Optimal dimensioning of the individual components of the installation provides top efficiency.

Thanks to the synergy resulting from the combination of a practically maintenance-free electrostatic precipitator with a bag house; very good pure gases can be achieved at low energy costs. One electrostatic precipitator field alone is capable of eliminating at least 90 % of the dust volume at very low energy consumption. Thanks to the ionisation and agglomeration effect in the electrostatic precipitator section, pressure loss in the fabric filter is reduced by up to 40 %. As only 10 % of the cleaning performance is carried out by the fabric filter, the use of compressed air is significantly reduced, which consequently significantly extends the life and maintenance intervals of the filter media. As a result, overall efficiency is higher than with fabric filters. This concept is especially adapted to the remodelling of old electrostatic precipitators where the existing housing and the first electrostatic precipitator field can still be used.

High outlet temperatures from the clinker cooler can be critical for the following components. In order to protect the precipitator or bag house against damage caused by high exhaust gas temperatures, a water injection is installed in the clinker cooler. The water distribution and the purge air are installed in a compact unit. The accompanying water tank is provided for supplying adequate amount of water for cooling whenever required. We have 2 different solutions for dosing the required amounts of water: a cascade control and a 2-stage control.
