Microbiology
Our equipment investment allows versatility and flexibility in testing for specific analytes per client need as determined by their permitting requirements. We also conduct analysis and monitoring of hydrocarbon degrading bacteria in petroleum-contaminated soil and water as well as bio-solid (sludge) testing requirements. One of the main concerns in our culture today is not only the easy availability of a water source, but also it"s freedom from contamination. The most significant examples of contamination society faces is the presence of bacteria in that water source. These may come from a variety of sources, but generally, the most common contamination of our surface and ground waters comes from human actions. EDG has in place the ability to test for the most common bacteria (fecal coliform), as well as testing for Colilert and Streptococcus forms also. We also possess the capabilities to perform total plate counts and heterotrophic counts.
Aquatic Biology, Bio-Monitoring
The aquatic biology laboratory at EDG specializes in biological assessment of freshwater habitats such as large and small streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and wetlands. Freshwater and saltwater organisms are tested in an isolated photo-period and temperature-controlled laboratory. We culture our freshwater test organisms in-house. EDG has scored 100% in seven of the past nine years on U.S. EPA-sponsored DMR QA studies for bio-monitoring. We perform Toxicity Identification Evaluation/Reduction Studies (TIE/TRE) in addition to WETs. We employ several types of bench-scale equipment to simulate wastewater treatment operations. The bio-monitoring laboratory also utilizes a comprehensive statistical software package designed specifically for toxicity data analyses. A separate Bio-Monitoring Statement of Qualifications is available (upon request)
Hazardous Waste
A large portion of EDG"s workload centers on hazardous waste and TCLP testing. We are a USACE certified lab for these parameters: Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB), Petroleum Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH), Gasoline contamination (BTEX), and explosives by HPLC. We also perform TCLP organic testing, as well as heavy metals. These tests are efficiently coordinated at EDG to meet the quick turnaround times needed for site assessments and remedial action projects. Our redundancy in equipment, sample prep on multiple shifts, and cross-trained scientists allow us to accommodate large sample volumes while achieving rapid turnaround.
Specialty Testing
EDG can also accommodate a wide range of specialty testing. We have performed many method development and bench- scale studies that have resulted in significant savings for our clients.
