Custom Database and Software Development
Occasionally, processes required by a client’s project can only be supported by the development of a custom software application. Example projects include analytical data verification processes, risk models utilizing Monte Carlo simulations, contamination exposure models, and custom databases. Additionally, we have developed add-on modules to commercially available software (specifically, a laboratory analytical data verification module for existing commercial environmental data management systems [EDMS]). Our programmers write programs to perform data verification of analytical data for usability. These programs are written to be compliant with US EPA guidelines and to address individual client needs.
EDD Specification Development
Our chemists and environmental data management specialists interface with client’s contract laboratories to create uniform Environmental Data Deliverable (EDD) specifications.
GIS and 3-D Modeling
Tools such as Geographic Information System (GIS) software and Environmental Visualization Software (EVS) integrate data with drawings, maps, or images to create powerful 3-D displays of information. Project managers incorporating these tools in an overall plan have realized savings of up to 75 percent on characterization and remediation budgets by selecting sampling locations using geostatistically guided site assessments. These tools guide remediation design and monitoring efforts by providing 3-D visualization of groundwater. Data visualization tools help to determine mass, volumetrics, and disposal costs. Clients have found the maps and animations for public relations, risk communication, and litigation support extremely valuable for presenting complex information to a wide audience quickly and cost-effectively.
Document Imaging and Archiving
Document imaging and archiving reduces paper storage requirements by converting paper documents into a CD-ROM-based storage and retrieval application. Typically, a Banker’s Box of raw data or single-sided reports will fit onto one CD-ROM. Document imaging both dramatically reduces physical storage requirements and archiving expedites data retrieval for a project team.
