Bacteria Testing: Surface Samples

Bacteria Surface Culture 3-Genus ID

Analysis of culturable bacteria on surfaces, waters, and bulks. The service includes identification, to the genus level, of the three prevalent colony types found on the culture to assist in interpretation of data.

Bacteria Surface Culture 5-Genus ID

Analysis of culturable bacteria on surfaces, waters, and bulks. The service includes identification, to the genus level, of the five prevalent colony types found on the culture to assist in interpretation of data.

Bacteria Surface Culture Gram Stain And Counts

Analysis is a quantitative bacterial assessment including calculation to cfu/unit. Multiple dilutions are prepared and plated on one media type (TSA w/o blood).

Bacteria Surface Culture Thermophilic Actinomycetes

Analysis includes identification of thermophilic actinobacteria (actinomycetes).

Endotoxin Analysis

Endotoxins are large and complex toxic molecules of polysaccharide, lipid A, and other cell wall components of Gram-negative bacteria. Analysis consists of a quantification of endotoxin amounts in environmental samples employing a Limulus Amebocyte Lysate reaction.

Fecal Coliform, Total Coliform, E. coli-P/A

In this qualitative analysis, environmental samples such as swabs, water, dust, etc. are grown in culture with metabolic indicators to detect the presence/absence of coliforms. If coliforms are presence, the culture is further analyzed to detect E. coli and fecal coliforms. Fecal coliforms are distinguished by their ability to grow at increased temperatures suggesting pathogenic potential.

Heterotrophic Plate Count

A procedure for estimating the live heterotrophic bacteria in water, and other materials. The heterotrophic plate count gives an estimate of the bacterial load on or in a water/material.

Hydrocarbon Degrading Bacteria

Analysis of water, waste water, and soil samples for culturable bacteria that have the ability to catalyze the degradation of hydrocarbons found in the environment. Selective media specific for detecting hydrocarbon degrading bacteria is used to evaluate the ability of microorganisms to decompose hydrocarbons.

Iron Bacteria-P/A

Direct microscopic examination of bulk and water samples for the presence or absence of iron bacteria.

Legionella Pneumophila Culture

Legionella testing and analysis is performed on waters (cooling tower, public supply, etc.) by culturing, using a variety of methods depending on the sample collection source. Legionella samples are plated onto differential and selective agars for quantitative analysis. Legionella testing by non-viable methods can lead to cross reactions of the antibodies with other organisms and false positives. Legionella, are then confirmed by various identifying characteristics recommended by the CDC.
